Calming the mind and moving towards awareness

Calming the mind and moving towards awareness

Saturday 30 November 10am – 4pm at Anthroposophic Book Centre, 96 Halifax Street, Adelaide

Sraddhanaya will draw on some of the material from her two-month meditation retreat with Vessantara, Vijyayamala, and Moksanandi, on the Gower Peninsular in Wales (January 2024).

On this day retreat there will be opportunities to draw on our own meditation experience and to put into practice some of the riches of Shamatha practice – the practice of calming the mind. A practice which is critical if we are to go beyond unawareness.

We will explore:

  • How we can use our experience both on and off the cushion to train our mind hearts (Citta) to go beyond ourselves so that we can taste freedom.
  • Some tools we can employ in our meditation practice to limit distraction from our spiritual motivation.
  • What practices can support us to open our hearts so we can further go into our direct experience.

Sraddhanaya has been an active member of the Melbourne Buddhist and the broader Triratna community since 2002. She was ordained in 2019. She is part of the Women’s study team, the Safeguarding person for the Melbourne Buddhist Centre; enjoys offering day and longer retreats, has a particular interest in meditation and in devotional faith based Buddhist practices. And one of her great loves is spiritual friendship.
